#Development

Recreational

Recreational soccer stresses the participation, enjoyment, sportsmanship, skill development, safety, and teamwork aspects of the game. The goal is for the players to learn and fall in love with the sport of soccer.

Our recreational teams are formed by Rush staff and coached by parent volunteers using a “neighborhood” concept following the boundaries of the local school districts’ elementary schools as closely as possible. All recreational teams will be coached by a parent volunteer. This parent must have a child on the team. Rush staff will support this volunteer parent with coaching education tools and pre-made training sessions to ensure a great environment for the players.

The Seasons BEGINS!

Branches

The Recreational Branch is divided into three divisions: the Micro Division, the Bantam Division, and the 11v11 Division. The number of teams per age group will vary depending on the number of players who register. To see what age group you fall under, see our age group chart.

At SWVA Rush Soccer Club, our Recreation League is dedicated to fostering a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment where players of all skill levels can develop their soccer abilities, build teamwork, and cultivate a lifelong love for the game. We are dedicated to providing a positive and engaging experience for all participants. Each weekly training session emphasizes one of our Core Values, which help players develop a love for the game while promoting sportsmanship and teamwork. These values not only enhance their soccer skills but also contribute to their growth as individuals, helping them become better people beyond the soccer field. Each player will receive a Rush Core Value Trophy Medallion at the end of each season!

Our goal is to inspire confidence, encourage sportsmanship, and create a community where every child feels valued and empowered both on and off the field. We prioritize player development over winning, focusing on age-appropriate learning experiences that emphasize effort, creativity, and enjoyment. Through the beautiful game of soccer, we aim to nurture not just athletes, but future leaders and positive members of our community.

U3/4 & U5/U6:
Our Mighty Mites program, designed for our youngest participants (ages 3–6), introduces children to the fundamentals of soccer in a fun and supportive atmosphere. Led by the Recreational Director and supported by a team of assistant coaches—including Rush Competitive coaches, players, and dedicated volunteers—children will participate in activities and games that focus on dribbling, shooting, and foundational soccer and movement skills.

Mighty Mites sessions are held on Mondays at The Meadows Sports Complex.

U8-U14:

For players in the U8 to U14 age groups, we form teams for U8, U10, U12 and U14 divisions. Teams are co-ed and created to be as even as possible. Each team has a dedicated Head Coach that conducts weekly training sessions. Each Wednesday during the season players are encouraged to come to Pick-Up Wednesdays to play player-led, fun, no pressure environment. Games are held on Saturday mornings, providing a great opportunity for players to develop their skills and enjoy competitive play in a supportive and friendly atmosphere. Training and game schedules will be released prior to the start of each season through Playmetrics and emiail. All practices and games will be held at The Meadows Sport Complex

In-House League

What is an in-house league? A league in which teams only play teams within the same program. No away game travel required. Just a simple, Rush vs Rush set up.

The Micro Division of our Recreational Program is an exciting, fun, and energetic in-house league for players 4 to 8 years old! Teams will be formed based on age, teammate requests and coach requests. Rush aims to foster a safe, fun, educational experience for your child as well as a solid foundation for lifetime skills.
